The remarks came during a telephone conversation late Thursday between Iran's FM Abbas Araghchi and Austria's Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, according to a readout issued by Iran's Foreign Ministry.
During the call, Araghchi elaborated on Iran's perspective regarding regional maritime security, emphasizing that Tehran views the heightened tensions in the vital waterway as being rooted in external provocations rather than any action on Iran's part.
The Iranian top diplomat also addressed the broader regional crisis, pointing to the ongoing "heinous crimes" committed by the Israeli regime against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and Lebanese territory.
He sharply criticized the European Union's "passive stance" and the comprehensive military and political backing that certain European states continue to provide to Israel, arguing that such support serves as the primary enabler of continued occupation and acts of genocide in occupied Palestine.
Furthermore, Araghchi condemned the EU's "interventionist posture" toward Iran, specifically denouncing European support for anti-Iranian terrorist elements and groups, which constitute a clear violation of international norms and bilateral understandings.
The Austrian Foreign Minister for her part, outlined her country’s position regarding the regional situation, emphasizing the importance of restoring stability and security to the region and normalizing conditions through diplomatic solutions.
